COPING SKILLS

Most of us have an array of healthy and unhealthy coping skills. Over a period of time the unhealthy coping skills become more negatively impacting and less helpful. Working with your therapist, you will be able to distinguish between healthy and unhealthy coping skills, and learn emotional, behavioral, and cognitive techniques to problem-solve in more adaptive and healthy ways. Healthy coping skills help us to decrease and manage the intensity of emotions that we experience. They also help to build self-esteem and self-worth, communication skills, and trust. Unhealthy coping skills tend to leave us feeling more withdrawn and isolated, and tend to be very temporary in their alleviation. They also do not resolve the issue at hand. Let one of our skilled clinicians assist you in understanding stressors in your life and to help find healthy and positive ways to express your thoughts, feelings, and observations.
