Interesting fact- we all dream! Whether or not we remember our dreams is another thing. We tend to remember dreams that occur in the beginning of sleep, or towards the end of sleep (right before we wake up). Nightmares are a universal experience, too. We all have them from time to time but all dreams and nightmares can be telling about our inner psyche. Plus, nightmares can be very scary and sometimes re-traumatizing! This video explains why we dream, when to pay attention to nightmares in particular, and also what to try if you keep having nightmares. You will learn about the interaction between traumatic experiences or PTSD and nightmares, what the brain is trying to do amidst a dream or nightmare, and most importantly- things to do to help reduce or eliminate them. If you try these tips consistently and they are not improving, I recommend counseling with a trauma-informed therapist to help you work through the underlying and driving components to why you are experiencing them.
