What "R" Stands for In EMDR

https://youtu.be/2yRlY5Lc-38 Tune in to learn what the "R" in EMDR stands for, and why it is considered a fun part of the trauma healing process. R stands for "Reprocessing". What does that mean and how does it apply to someone going through EMDR treatment with their therapist? Well, once you get through the desensitization phase of EMDR, we are ready for the next phase- Reprocessing, in which we work to develop whats called a "positive cognition", or positive belief about yourself in place of the negative one that we started off with. By now and because we have completed Desensitization, a positive belief comes much more natural to develop AND believe. From here we use bilateral stimulation to encode or "install" that positive belief when paired with the target (memory of the trauma) itself.
